Reflections: A Time to Rest

These days society as a whole seems to connect success with remaining busy all the time. I think it is easy to fall into that same pattern when it comes to the things of God. Many people think that they have to work for salvation and earn their way into heaven. The truth is that salvation is about resting in God and realizing that all of the work is done. 

Jesus Christ did all of the work on the cross when he died in our place. He did not stop working then. He rose back to life defeating death and is calling you today. The only thing you have to do is believe that he is the way to heaven and come and rest in what he has already done for you.

God is not looking down on believers and counting how much hours they have worked for him and counting all of the good things being done. God sent his son Jesus Christ to do all of the work for us so that we can rest instead of work. 

There is work to be done such as sharing the gospel with others but this work does not determine your salvation. 

On this Labor day where workers in the United States get a day off to rest I hope that many will focus on the fact that we can come to rest in God. 

“28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 KJV

You may work very hard here on earth each day but there is rest for your soul and there will be rest for your body one day in heaven when you are made new. Remember to rest here on earth as working too much is never helpful.
