Life can be a complex maze to navigate at times and it is always helpful to have a solid place to turn for advice and for a guide. I believe that this is found by praying to God and reading the Bible. One book of the Bible that contains excellent and practical advice for life is the book of Proverbs. Here are some life lessons I have learned from Proverbs chapter 17.
1. Money does not equal happiness. It is possible to be very wealthy but still live in a home without love. Life is not about money, yes we need it to survive but it should not be the main focus of life. I believe that God is able to provide for what is needed and help find work and such things like that. It is important to put God first and focus on loving others more than looking to money.
2. It is not good to find joy when others fail or face hard times. I should not put anyone down but should be an encouragement to others.
3. Lying will not end well in any situation. No one is perfect and I have lied and will probably lie in the future but this reminds me to stay away from it.
4. Friendship is sustained through a lot of forgiveness and love. I believe this is helpful for any relationship whether friendship or family but there are friends that become closer than family.
5. It is wise to speak as less as possible. I have learned that the less I say the less trouble I get into. I am quiet to begin with but I often remember this verse.
6. God knows what is deep in each heart. I can hide things from others but not from God.
7. It is best to do what is right and follow God’s path and stand for what is good. God will bring justice in the end and standing for what is right and just is to stand on God’s side.
8. Depression really hurts the body. I want to try to keep a cheerful heart but only God can help me do that.
I highly encourage you to read the chapter yourself, if you rather listen to it you can listen below.
