Have you ever wished you had a guide for matters of life? The Bible provides a guide for life and a good place to turn for practical life advice is the book of Proverbs. Here are some life lessons I have learned from Proverbs chapter 21.
God directs governments
All officials in power whether they are kings or presidents are in power because God puts them there. I must trust God’s ways in these matters.
“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” – Proverbs 21:1 (King James Version)
Wicked vs righteous
In the end God will judge the wicked and justice will come to all. It will pay off to do the right thing at the end. God knows all things.
“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.” – Proverbs 21:2 (King James Version)
“It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.” – Proverbs 21:15 (King James Version)
“He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.” – Proverbs 21:21 (King James Version)
On matters of lifestyle and wealth
Hard work is rewarded, but those who seek to make fast money will not have a good ending.
“The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.” – Proverbs 21:5 (King James Version)
“The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.” – Proverbs 21:6 (King James Version)
It is better to live a simple life but with love and peace than to have a lot of money but not have true love and peace.
“It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.” – Proverbs 21:9 (King James Version)
Those who are wealthy should help those who are poor.
“Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.” – Proverbs 21:13 (King James Version)
Seek wisdom
It is important to seek wisdom and be open to learning from others. Seeking wisdom first keeps trouble away.
“When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.” – Proverbs 21:11 (King James Version)
“The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.” – Proverbs 21:16 (King James Version)
How to handle conflict with an angry person
The best way to handle an enemy is actually to be nice to them.
“A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.” – Proverbs 21:14 (King James Version)
Safety comes from God
It is important to prepare as much as we can for disasters but in the end I believe that protection comes from God, so do not forget to put God first in your life.
“The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord.” – Proverbs 21:31 (King James Version)
