Stream of Consciousness Saturday is a writing prompt series that can be found at the blog “Life in Progress”. The prompt for this Saturday is “eek/eke.” Learn more about #SoCS and join in here.

When I first read the word eek I instantly thought of a mouse. I then started to think of all the animals I am afraid of.

The animal that scares me the most is definitely a mouse. I literally freeze and can not breathe when one is near me. I once threw out half of my lunch as I could not eat as I heard one near me while I was at an apartment in NYC.

The next animals I have a fear of are bees and it’s mainly because I can not see them as I am visually impaired. I think this also greatly contributes to my fear of mice.

Now that I am on the topic of what I fear, I should add that I still do not like the sound of balloons being popped and also of fireworks. Now that I am discussing what I don’t like I will say that an item of food that is eek to me is olives. I do usually eat most things.

Well that’s all I have to share on this. Let me know what you fear or do not like in the comments below and if you are a blogger feel free to join in on Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

  1. When I lived further south, we had a lot more bugs. The large palmetto cockroaches scared me, and I’m glad we don’t have those where we live now. I tried to remind myself that they were more scared of me than I was of them. That would probably apply to mice and bees. I’m with you on the balloons popping and fireworks which can be hard for anyone who’s been through trauma. Soft soothing sounds are much better, especially the older I get.
